Is it right for my room?
The manufacturer recommends this lamp for rooms up to 20 m² (50 m³). With direct UV-C, the dose is what counts: irradiance × time. The dose decreases with distance and UV does not work in shadow.The manufacturer recommends up to 20 m² (50 m³). There must be no people in the room during operation.
The run time is calculated from the lamp's UV-C power and published studies: surfaces facing the lamp at the edge of the room receive a dose that reduces common bacteria and viruses by at least 99%.
How it works
A direct UV-C lamp irradiates the room's air and the surfaces its light reaches directly. That is why it works only in an empty room.

Dose = irradiance × time
The lamp emits 254 nm UV-C directly into the room. A surface or the air receives a dose that depends on the lamp's irradiance at that distance and on time. Move the sliders and see how the dose changes.
The dose depends on the distance from the lamp and on time. UV does not work in shadow.

What we rely on
The effect of 254 nm UV-C on bacteria and viruses has been measured in published studies. We do not promise a fixed percentage for every microbe: the result depends on the dose, the distance and whether the surface faces the lamp.
The run time on this page is calculated from the lamp's UV-C power and the room size, and rounded up. Surfaces in shadow receive several times less, and visible dirt must be cleaned off first: UV does not replace cleaning.
- Rutala et al. 2010, Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology ↗ (opens in a new window) Hospital room study: with a UV-C device, bacteria on surfaces were reduced by more than 99% in 15 minutes. Measured with a special hospital device, not with this lamp.
- Malayeri et al. 2016, IUVA ↗ (opens in a new window) A summary table of the UV-C doses that reduce various bacteria and viruses by 90–99.99%. Our run-time calculation is based on it.
- Health Board (Terviseamet), 2024 ↗ (opens in a new window) Recommendations for choosing and using UV devices: the device should be used according to the manufacturer's instructions, and advertising claims are worth checking. We follow this in our own manual too.
